What the CMA course fee in India is actually made of
There are four separate buckets, and families usually only budget for the first one:
- ICMAI registration fee — paid once per level (Foundation, Intermediate, Final). This enrols your child in the course.
- ICMAI exam fee — paid every time a group is written. Separate from registration, and easy to forget.
- Coaching fee — paid to a private institute. Optional in theory, decisive in practice for most students.
- Small recurring costs — books beyond the ICMAI study material, printing, travel to the exam centre, and the ICMAI membership fee at the very end.

Two things worth knowing. First, the instalment facility at Intermediate and Final is genuinely useful — it lets a family spread ₹23,100 across two payments instead of finding it in one month. Second, registration fees are not refundable. If your child registers and then changes course, that money is gone.
✅ If your child is already a graduate, Foundation is skipped
A graduate in any discipline other than fine arts can register directly for CMA Intermediate. That removes the ₹6,000 Foundation registration, the ₹1,200 Foundation exam fee, and roughly six months of coaching from the bill. For a working professional or a B.Com graduate deciding at 21, this is a meaningful saving — and one of the reasons CMA suits people who come to it late.
Exam fees — the cost that repeats
This is the number parents miss. The exam fee is paid afresh for every attempt, in every group. Clear everything first time and it is small. Repeat two groups and it starts to add up.

A student who clears everything cleanly pays about ₹7,200 in exam fees across the whole course. A student who repeats one Intermediate group twice and one Final group once pays around ₹11,000. Not ruinous — but it should be in your budget, not a surprise.
Coaching fees — the part that varies most
ICMAI supplies study material and runs its own oral and postal coaching as part of registration. For a self-disciplined student with a strong commerce background, that can be enough. For most students it is not — the Intermediate cost and management papers in particular are where unguided students lose a year.
Private coaching in Tamil Nadu typically runs in these ranges. These are market ranges, not any one institute’s price list — always ask for a written fee structure before you commit.

When you compare two institutes on price, compare what is inside the price. Test series, model papers, doubt-clearing hours, revision batches and answer-script correction are sometimes bundled and sometimes charged separately. An institute that looks ₹10,000 cheaper and then charges for the test series is not cheaper.

- Never miss the exam form deadline. A missed form means six months lost and coaching paid for a term that produced no result.
- Use the ICMAI study material properly. It is already paid for inside your registration fee. Buying three reference books per paper before exhausting the official material is money spent on comfort, not marks.
- Use the instalment option at Intermediate and Final rather than borrowing to pay in full.
- Ask any institute for the written, all-inclusive fee — coaching, test series, revision batch, correction — before enrolling.
For families in Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu
A student in Coimbatore has one real cost advantage over a student who moves to Chennai or Bengaluru for the same course: no hostel, no relocation. That difference alone is often ₹1 lakh or more a year — frequently larger than the entire coaching fee. Can the CMA course fee be paid in instalments?
ICMAI allows the Intermediate and Final registration fees to be paid in two instalments, with the balance due before the cut-off for the relevant exam term. The Foundation fee is a single payment. Coaching instalment terms are set by each institute — ask before you enrol.
Is the CMA registration fee refundable if my child drops out?
No. ICMAI registration fees are generally non-refundable. This is a strong argument for having one honest conversation about commitment before registering, rather than registering to “try it out”.
What does it cost if my child fails a group?
The registration is not paid again — only the exam fee for that group, roughly ₹1,500 at Intermediate or ₹1,800 at Final. The larger cost is time, and coaching if the student repeats the classes for that group. Failing one group is common and is not a reason to leave the course.
Do I need private coaching, or is ICMAI’s own material enough?
